In the documentary History of the Federal University of Alagoas, the reason for the creation of eleven courses in 1974, among which the nursing and obstetrics course is described as follows:

"The Federal University of Alagoas, incorporating the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Culture regarding the expansion and integration of education in the country's development process, planned and created new courses that, integrated with the existing ones, aimed to meet the socio-economic demands of the State. The creation of these courses was based on the study of these discoveries, and they were directed to the areas of health, technology and teacher training".
